Jarosław Rychlik PhD

Doctor of social sciences in psychology. He completed his MA studies at the Institute of Psychology at the University of Opole and then doctoral studies at the Faculty of Pedagogy and Psychology of the University of Silesia. He also completed a course in human resources management run by the Poznan University of Social Sciences. He started working in the Prison Service in 2006 in the Prison in Racibórz. He was associated with this unit for over 14 years. There he was entrusted with the position of psychologist of the penitentiary department and then of the therapeutic department for convicts with non-psychotic mental disorders or mental retardation. Since 2016, he has served as a manager of the department. During this time he has acquired a range of professional experience regarding the role of a psychologist in a penitentiary unit. He has been serving as an assistant professor at the Academy of Justice since August 2020. As part of his duties, he carries out research projects and teaching activities and participates in the organisational activities of the Academy.

His research interests include constructive thinking, structural and functional aspects of meaning in life, coping with stress and penitentiary psychology. He has co-authored several publications on, among others, the problem of the functioning of inmates in prison conditions. He has participated in many scientific conferences presenting the results of his research and has been appointed as a member of discussion panels.

Teaching achievements

  • Conducting classes entitled “Selected penitentiary issues in the context of functioning of the mediation procedures” as an element of the “Postgraduate Studies on Mediation and Restorative Justice” carried out within the framework of the project “Pilotage of the program implementing the idea of restorative justice in the territory of the District Inspectorate of Prison Service in Lublin”

  • Providing training to first responders on methodological and ethical aspects of conducting questionnaire surveys for the Ministry of Justice’s DFS.

Organisational achievements

  • Member of the team for the affairs of the second cycle degree programme at the Academy of Justice

  • Member of the working group established by the Ministry of Justice preparing a research project on the evaluation of the provisions of the Act on amending the Civil Procedure Code and certain other acts (Journal of Laws of 2020, item 956).
